Why Nigerian Troops Are Defeating Boko Haram - Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has said Nigerian troops
have recorded tremendous victory against Boko Haram
insurgents.
He attributed the steady gains against the insurgents to
the re-training and re-equipping of the military under his
administration, Vanguard reports.
The president said this on Sunday, September 27 in New
York, United States of America, at a meeting with China’s
President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the 70th General
Assembly of the United Nations.
Buhari also said those suspected of looting the Nigerian
National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) treasury will
soon be prosecuted.
According to him, he had to reorganise the Corporation by
appointing a new management, which was one first
necessary step to take.
He reiterated his administration’s resolve to fully sanitise
the oil industry and make it totally free of corruption and
shady deals.
The president thanked Jinping for his country’s
assistance to Nigeria in curbing crude oil theft.
“ We know your stand on corruption, and we are grateful.
Your continued cooperation in curbing oil theft from Nigeria
will be appreciated ,” he said.
On his part, President Jinping told Buhari that China will
increase its investment in the country’s agricultural
sector to support the achievement of domestic food
security.
The Chinese president also promised further investments
in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry, and more support for
human capital development in the country.
President Buhari is currently in New York for the 70th
session of the UN General Assembly Nigeria. He has been
meeting with top dignitaries and world leaders to work on
ways to enhance Nigeria’s bilateral relationship with
powerful individuals and countries.
The Buhari held a bilateral meeting with Bill Gates of
Microsoft and former President Bill Clinton on Friday,
September 25.
He was also said to have held a closed-door meeting with
former President Olusegun Obasanjo at the Millennium
Plaza Hotel.
