Boko Haram Cameroonians donate blood for soldiers fighting terrorists

Iyawa Fadimatou, a prospective donor, told DW that she wanted to donate so that the military could avenge the death of three of her relatives killed in a recent suicide bomb attack in northern Cameroon.

  Hundreds of Cameroonians have rallied to donate blood for some of the country’s soldiers who were wounded while battling Boko Haram terrorists.

  The donation exercise took place at the Sports Complex in the capital, Yaounde.

  “I am a Cameroonian and this is a civic engagement for me to show my patriotism. This is my own way to react against Boko Haram,” she said.

  Another donor, Joel Neba said that donating blood was his way of supporting the soldiers.

  “My motivation for donating blood today is to help those who have been injured on the battlefront and to tell them that even though we are not at the battlefront with them, we believe that by donating our blood it will help those who are in need,” he said.

  Boko Haram operates largely in Nigeria but has carried out attacks in Cameroon leading the country to participate in a multinational force against the sect.
